K-12 – “What If” Talk

The Ideation Foundation’s “WHAT IF” Talk!

What IF?

297201_10200093042555809_778861977_nThe slogan for The Ideation Foundation is spelt out in the high school classroom by Founder and President, Caleb Carr. Caleb forces students to ask the question “What If” multiple times during a 60 minute class. What if I could change the world? What if I could make a difference today? What if I went to college? What if I became an innovator? Etc. Etc. Instead of Caleb trying to answer those questions for students, Caleb simple provides the spark for students to have the later discussion and dialogue with parents, teachers, and other mentors in the student’s lives.

VentureWell Open, Portland, Oregon, March 3, 4, 5, 2016.

Caleb brings this reality to the classroom by relating back to years as a Search and Rescue Professional, Student Lobbyist, Fire Fighter, Entrepreneur, and Activist. When he was 17 years old he was called out to a search mission to find a 26 year old woman. After locating her and speaking to her for over an hour, the woman jumped off a 250 foot cliff to later die in Caleb’s hands. It was this reality that made Caleb ask the question “What If?” In fact, this simple question has taken him to the steps of the White House, to refugee camps in sub-Saharan Africa, and prompted him to develop four companies that have spanned the world. It is from this platform that Caleb begs the question “What If” for your students.

What Does It Look Like

12321437_10209642291561066_4517539351201027502_nCaleb has spoken at universities, in front of entire high school classes, and in just in a small classroom all with the same message. Caleb works with students through his stories to explain the power of networking, failure, and success (both internal and external). From the prospective of a 23 year old, Caleb has the unique ability to relate to students on a whole new level. From a place of a dialogue, Caleb is able to ask specific questions of the audience but also empower them to challenge him back. By the end of the session, students will walk away challenged, inspired, and if nothing else empowered to do something today instead of waiting until tomorrow; because tomorrow might just be too late.
